Disclaimer: This is not Star Wars related. There is no recruitment for the Dark Side happening here. No “Luke, I am your father.” None of that. There is an enemy though who wants us on the dark side by trying to take our focus off of God. So let’s shine the light on what the enemy is trying to do.
The enemy would like to try to convince us that God is not good when bad is happening. One of the attributes, or characteristics of God, is He is good. God’s goodness is in all that He created. It’s everywhere that He is because it’s His nature to be good. God is good, and He does good. There is no evil to be found in Him. He is pure, upright, excellent, honorable, trustworthy. So does God stop being good when bad things happen or bad seems to be in the picture?
No, He does not. God is also unchangeable. He is who He is. Psalm 23:4 says, “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me. Your rod and Your staff they comfort me.” God is right there with us when things seem pretty bad around us or when we are going through difficult things. And God makes all things work together for the good of those who love Him and are the called according to His purpose. God is good.
Another way the enemy tries to convince us that God is not good is when we think we’ve been so good but things aren’t working out how we think they should be or think we deserve some good in return. Our righteousness is not something we gave ourselves though, but what Jesus gave up for us to become righteous. There’s nothing we earned or did but it’s been God’s goodness and it’s a gift. The question is, is God still good to us in our minds when things haven’t worked out? Well, look at Job.
With all that Job lost and went through, he never turned his back on God, because he knew God was good. And He still is. Don’t go to the dark side when things may seem dark. Stick with the Light who is good and will see you through.
