The Best Part Of The Story
I’ve got a story to tell. In fact, we all have a story to tell. It’s not altogether pretty, but that’s the beauty of it all. It’s not some perfect, flawless story that we could tell about ourselves, that everything in life never was a struggle. If that was the story we told, how believable or even relatable would it be? It wouldn’t be, and that’s why there is what’s called fantasy, so people need to know the whole story,
The worst part of your story is actually the best part of your story. What you think is embarrassing, shameful, imperfect, jacked up, messed up, or simply bad is the part that makes the story good, especially if God brought you through it. Only He is good at changing the story from the worst to the best, making beauty from ashes and turning sorrow into joy. He’s done it since the beginning.
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. This is a pretty good start to the story. What makes it even better though is the next line of the story after this one. The earth was without form (meaning “chaos”) and void (or empty), and darkness was on the face of the deep. This is the better part because we see everything didn’t start out so perfect. God took what was messy and dark, and made the most amazing creation out of it.
The only perfect part of that story is God Himself. Everything else was not. When God got in the messy part, He turned it into the best part. When sin entered the earth two chapters later, God was there too. From there in Genesis 3:15, He planned on sending Jesus to save us from our sins and bring us back into relationship with Him. We have a hope when it looks like there is no hope. We have a faith because He came through and changed our worst for the best.
We tend to hide the ugly parts of our stories. Truth be told (pun intended), we need to tell those parts. It’s the best part because people can then know the one and only God who can bring them out of the deep, dark, messy struggles that they are facing. If we don’t talk about the worst parts, how will people know how you got to the good part to where Jesus saved you? So tell the whole story, including the worst part of our story because it’s actually the best part. It could save a life.
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ for it is power unto salvation to all those who believe.”- Romans 1:16 NKJV
